Bridge Lighting Design - Kaohsiung City Park Land Bridge 2014 / 09

Location

The Kaohsiung City ParkLand Bridge was constructed to bring progress to Kaohsiung City but also to sustain the memories and culture of the area. In order to preserve the historical memory in the urban development, the Kaohsiung City Government converted the red arch bridge into the sky cloud platform. The sky cloud platform overlooks the Hama Star Railway Cultural Park and the Green Road of the Park Road. The old bridge is like an old railway creating new life. The design concept of the sky cloud platform is to bring the clouds of the daytime closer. During the night time it becomes a new landmark as the railway park shines, to showcase the original expansion joint embedded in the asphalt. The space also considers the tourists comfort while they are sight-seeing with the incorporation of large comfortable seating.

Lighting Design

To enhance the lighting of the bridge, white film was plasted on the bridge body with a white light making it a focus during the night. The red bridge arches are also illuminated with white floodlights and yellow line lights to reveal the traces of its history. The stair section is also washed with white light to increase the safety and visibility for those walking. To contrast the space from day into night, the inground lights illuminate in white and blue to provide a unique atmosphere in the evening.
