Bridge Lighting Design｜South Kaohsiung Night Landmark "Former Town Star Bicycle Bridge"

Location

At the intersection of Zhongshan 4th Road and Kaixuan 4th Road, connected to the Lingang Line Bicycle Road, Qianzhen River Bicycle trail is the new "Qianzhen Star Bicycle Landscape Bridge". Kaohsiung is internationally renowned for its bicycle friendly landscape and has been selected by CNN as one of the top five cycling cities in Asia. The bocycle bridge has won the China Architecture Golden Award for Best Planning and Design Excellence. After its opening, the bridge provides cyclists with a more comfortable and safe experience when crossing the Kaixuan section and extends the bicycle lane system of the Lingang Line to make the bicycle network more complete. 

Lighting Design

The steel design of the bridge winds around like a bean stalk. The winding lanes are like the beanstalk in the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Two colour temperatures of light help express the meaning of the lighting design. The cool-white colour temperature improves the illumination and visibility for cyclists so the can be guided by a belt of light on the winding path. It feels like they are cycling through the air on a starry night sky. The bridges structural design features are emphasized with the warm-white colour temperature. The light softens the structure and expresses the rich streamlined beauty and the heirarchy of the new landmark.
