Field background
The brand-new railway underground Kaohsiung Station is the crowning achievement of railway undergrounding in the Kaohsiung metropolitan area, including seven underground stations along a 9.75-kilometer railway tunnel. Making it a true transport hub integrating trains, MRT, local and intercity bus services, taxis and bicycles. As a key project of urban renewal, the above-ground station aims to increase valuable public green space and develop local communities.
The central concourse of Kaohsiung Station unfolds under an oval-shaped light-filled ceiling. Starting from the underground platform, the immersive space will feel instantly familiar. The station’s large, curved canopy reaches out into the city with a powerful gesture, acting as a green connector that unifies different modes of transportation and represents Kaohsiung’s vision for the future as a sustainable city.
Lighting design
The main work project performed by Rooster Lighting in the new Kaohsiung Station is the design, production and construction of the main lighting chandelier under the ceiling. The appearance design of the chandelier is based on the design formulated by the Dutch Meconnaugh Architects, which hopes to present the image of a lantern in the square in front of the temple. The DALI system is used for dimming, and DALI is used for control. It can be group controlled and situational. Control, it can also be controlled individually, and all aspects can be controlled.
In the same lamp, we divide it into two types of light sources: down-illumination and 360-degree lighting. For down-illumination, the installation height and spacing of the lamps are considered during the design process. After analyzing these data, we can achieve the best horizontal illumination. And get the best horizontal illumination uniformity, and even vertical illumination so that everyone's face in the station square will not be difficult to identify due to shadows.
In addition, this lamp is designed with a lifting device, and the steel cable can be up to 25M long. The lamp can be lowered to the bottom through remote control for easy maintenance. Because it is completely isolated from electricity when lowered, maintenance is very safe and convenient.
I hope that the main chandelier at Kaohsiung Station can bring a very good light environment at night, making Kaohsiung Station an international-class station that will be unforgettable for people to come here.
